Pay no attention to the penguin on top of the canner.......
Scott came home with this beauty from a resale shop that he found in Seneca, SC (The big pot looking thing- not the penguin.) It is extremely heavy and thick and despite being a little dirty, is in excellent physical condition. The surprise is that it is 54 years old! What is it you might ask? It is a pressure cooker or canner. What this means to me is that if I get it inspected for safety, I have a canner to use to process veggies from the impending garden! The Mirro-Magic corporation made this baby and after writing to them (which is totally different company now), they actually sent me a manual. I don't understand it at all but at least they sent me a manual! Step 2 is to clean the booger up and find out where to get it tested. I'm afraid the county extension office is going to freak out when they see it and tell me to throw it away. Step 3 is to order a gasket seal (and I really found a company that sells seals for these old guys)and get it on the way. Step 3 is to try it out- OUTSIDE. I've been watching videos by Granny Miller and WebCajun and I feel a little bit more confident now. I still want to personally find someone that has experience with an old guy like this before I try anything.
...and if it fails inspection, sell it on Etsy as vintage!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! I hadn't thought of that!
